One of the most exciting and innovative sports complexes in Budapest's history is being built in District XIII, which will host the new headquarters of World Aquatics moving from Lausanne. We are proud to participate as designers in the realization of this project and to have had the opportunity to develop a pioneering architectural ensemble that will be worthy of the highest standards in sports professionalism and sport diplomacy.
The new complex features a versatile 50-meter competition pool that can be easily transformed into two 25-meter pools and is perfectly suited for hosting water polo matches, thanks to the design and functional solutions implemented in the planning process.
One of the most outstanding architectural elements worldwide is the unique, covered giant diving tower, which stands at 27 meters tall and presented an exceptional technical and design challenge: creating such a structure was a incredible experience for Paulinyi & Partners, and it could set a new global standard.
From the perspective of the approach and values upheld by Paulinyi & Partners, it was also particularly meaningful for us to incorporate the old machinery hall designed by Ignác Alpári, which is protected as a monument, into the project after renovation — this building will also become part of the center. Additionally, a further complex functioning as both a dormitory and hotel is under construction, which will serve as accommodation for the International Swimming Federation (FINA) scholarship holders.
This multifunctional, future-oriented development strengthens Budapest’s role as an international hub for water sports. Our goal was to demonstrate through the design that Hungary can also achieve outstanding results in architecture at a global level, excelling in both creativity and technical excellence!
