Orsolya Vass, Interior Architecture Project Director at Paulinyi & Partners, delivered a guest lecture at the Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Óbuda University, presenting both the theory and practice of sustainable interior design. The lecture traced the full arc of the design process – from initial sketches and conceptual thinking through to realised spaces.
Sustainability as a Design Principle
At the heart of Orsolya's lecture was the conviction that responsible design cannot be limited to technical solutions alone: sustainability must be embedded across the entire lifecycle of a building, from interior design decisions to material selection. The presentation addressed the role of certified materials and standards, the importance of conscious material choices, and the ways in which ecological and economic thinking converge in the pursuit of long-term value creation.
Drawing on her own professional experience, she illustrated how human-centred, environmentally conscious interiors can be achieved, and how creative design vision and responsible material use can be brought together in shaping the built environment.
Inspiration for the Next Generation of Architects
Beyond the transfer of professional knowledge, Orsolya's lecture aimed to shape perspectives, showing students that sustainable design is no longer merely an option, but a fundamental professional responsibility. We firmly believe that architects and interior designers play a pivotal role in ensuring that the built environment of tomorrow is liveable, inclusive, and enduring in its value.
Looking back, we are proud to say that Orsolya Vass’s presentation was just one of many university appearances we’ve made this semester. We consider our relationship with Óbuda University and its students to be exceptionally valuable – we believe that the integration of professional innovation and university education is essential to ensuring that, in the future as well, outstanding professionals will continue to represent this industry, which is so important to all of us.
