⛪ The nearly 1,000-year-old Benedictine Abbey of Tihany has been renewed – blending heritage preservation with cutting-edge contemporary architecture.
We are proud Paulinyi & Partners was responsible for the five-year-long modernisation and partial restoration of this iconic site. Our mission was clear: to respect the Abbey’s spiritual and historical essence while carefully integrating 21st-century functions.
Thank you to Index for documenting our efforts. As you can read in their article, hidden decorative paintings were uncovered and restored, historical surfaces were preserved, and new, sustainable systems were installed as part of our vision. The project also included a contemporary extension: the St. Christopher Guesthouse, designed in collaboration with Qvarta Studio, harmoniously linking past and present.
As Dr. Gergely Paulinyi DLA, Ybl-award winning architect and our CEO, summarised:
“The modernisation of the Abbey represents a harmonious balance between past and future – a prime example of contemporary architecture and heritage protection working hand in hand.”
