World Aquatics HQ

In 2023, the international governing body of World Aquatics (formerly FINA) decided to relocate its headquarters from Lausanne to Budapest.

According to the plans, the centerpiece of the new facility will be a 50-meter competition pool, which can be converted into two 25-meter pools or adapted for both women's and men's water polo matches as needed. One of the most unique features of the complex will be a covered giant diving tower, unparalleled anywhere in the world.

The site also includes a historic assembly hall designed by Ignác Alpár, which is under monument protection. After renovation, this building will also become part of the headquarters. The complex will be further expanded with a building ensemble functioning as both a dormitory and a hotel, providing accommodation for World Aquatics scholarship holders.

The new headquarters of World Aquatics will be built in Budapest’s District XIII, as part of the Láng Quarter development project. Surrounding the headquarters will be a nearly 2-hectare park, encircled by modern, sustainable residential and office buildings. The urban district is based on the “15-minute city” concept, meaning all essential services will be accessible within a short walking distance.

This investment connects the industrial heritage of the past with the sustainable urban development of the future, while also giving new momentum to Hungary’s sports scene and economy.
